Is Restylane Safe?

Yes, Restylane has been used by dermatologists for nearly two decades, and has the FDA’s seal of approval as a natural cosmetic dermal filler. Since it’s made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid (HA,) and is biocompatible to the natural, skin-plumping and smoothing HA found in the human body, Restylane is hypo-allergenic, meaning it will not cause an allergic reaction. So time-consuming pre-testing for allergies is not required, like it is for some other injectable dermal fillers. Since this product is made from non-animal HA, it virtually eliminates any risk of animal-based allergic reaction or animal-based disease transmission.

You will, though, need to discuss your complete medical history with your physician, so that you can be cleared for safe Restylane treatments, and also so that your doctor can select the perfect formulation and dosage for your skin’s challenges.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have or had skin disease, inflammation or other skin issues, your physician may decide that Restylane is not for you, and seek a different injectable type or course of treatment.

Restylane injections are done in your dermatologist’s office, are non-surgical and non-invasive, and results can be seen almost instantaneously. A fine needle is used to inject this clear gel filler, and topical anesthetics make the process even more comfortable.

You will, of course, need to know which kinds of post-treatment effects to expect, so that you’re aware of what’s a common and expected effect, and what might be cause to seek medical advice or treatment. The most common side effects of Restylane include temporary bruising, redness, swelling, and numbness that may last a few days. If you experience any lumps beneath your skin, your physician can easily remedy these with a simple enzyme treatment made to speed up the natural effects of the Restylane filler. Any intense pain or other great discomfort is unusual and requires medical attention.

Bruising rarely occurs as a side effect after treatment, but each patient’s skin sensitivities and reactions can vary. If you do experience any bruising, it can take 3-7 days to fully fade. The safety of Restylane is very much dependent on your medical history and current conditions and medications, as well as your self-care before and after treatment. With careful assessment and care, your Restylane results will start impressing very soon after treatment, and you’ll feel smoother, transformed, more youthful and perhaps more confident with your non-facelift metamorphosis…and grateful at how painless, quick and easy the process was.
