All About Microblading

Eyebrows have become such a staple in the makeup world. Everyone is looking for nice, thick, full eyebrows. Many are unfortunately not blessed with these kinds of eyebrows but now there is a way to achieve fuller looking eyebrows without using any makeup. The process is called Microblading. The experts at Shorthills Dermatology have come up with all the information that you need to know about Microblading.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup that fills in missing eyebrow hair to give a much fuller effect using fine deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigment. A blade like tool that has tiny needles embedded in it deposits the pigment to the eyebrows. Usually women are the ones who get this procedure done but men can do it as well.

How long does it last?

The benefit of this process is that it is semi-permanent meaning that if you change your mind about it you are not stuck with it forever. Microblading typically ends up lasting anywhere from 9 to 15 months depending on the care and skin type.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure can take anywhere from 1 ½ hours to 2 hours depending on the client.

What happens during the procedure?

The specialist usually recommends a consultation before the procedure is actually preformed. This consultation is to do a patch test to see how the skin will react to the procedure. As well as getting to know what the client is looking for and how they want their eyebrows shaped. During the procedure the specialist will shape and style the eyebrows to the desired look. The color of the pigment is chosen. Once these steps are complete the procedure starts.

Touchups

It is highly recommended that you do touchups every 4-6 weeks. The reason for this is because as the weeks go by the pigment can fade a bit and some areas can become sparse and need to be filled in.  It is not recommended that you go in before the 4 weeks because not enough time has passed for the pigment to sink into the skin.

Is Microblading painful?

During Microblading there can be a little bit of discomfort. This all depends on the level of pain tolerance one can endure. But overall there is very minimum pain. There are numbing creams that are used before the procedure to help prevent any pain.

How to get lasting results?

There are a few key steps to take once you have gotten the procedure to get lasting results.

  • Make sure to follow the aftercare instuctions that are provided to you.
  • Drink lots of water to maintain hydration
  • Try to avoid as much sunlight during the healing process

How long is the healing process?

There is no down time after the Microblading procedure is done. It takes around 7-14 days for the eyebrows to heal. There may be slight redness but that is completely normal. After about a month the color will fully set in. It is important to not pick or pick the scabs that may form. Picking or peeling them can cause damage to the pigmentation and procedure. The brows will also appear very dark at first but around 40% of the color will fade in the next couple of days. Do not put any sort of makeup on the brow area for the first 10 days. It is very crucial to not get the eyebrows wet before the 2-week mark. Avoid getting water on the eyebrows while showering. Tanning and swimming are prohibited for at least 2 weeks.  Avoid alcohol and aspirin/ibuprofen for 24 hours after the procedure was done. This can cause the blood to thin.

Post Care Instructions

It is crucial to have a consultation before doing Microblading because there are a lot of things one must stay away from before the procedure.

  • Avoid Alcohol at least 24 hours before the procedure
  • Avoid taking aspirin/ibuprofen 48-72 hours before the procedure
  • Do not tan the skin
